All About Me
My name is Lee.
I was born on 21st
May 1969 in Wallingford Hospital.
I lived with my birth mother, we used to live in
Whitley Wood, Reading Berks.
I was born with a disability
named Spina Bifida .
When I was born my feet weren’t straight.
I also had a sister who’s name
is Frances, unfortunately she sadly
died at six months old, It was very
difficult to understand as I was only about
3 or 4 yrs old at the time.
At the of 3 I went to a special school called The Avenue school in Reading.
To get to school I travelled by bus, the driver was called Mr Howard.
When I got there I met all the teachers. The teacher I had in my class was
called Mrs Long, we all liked her, I quite enjoyed being in nursery because
there were lots of children to play with.
My main teacher is Mr Hall who taught English - he was a great teacher.
He played the guitar and had a Friday sing-a-long. Also while I was at school I
started going to Physio to help exercise my legs.
When I was about 11 or 12 I went into hospital
to have my feet straightened. The operation took place at the John
Radcliffe Hospital. I didn’t have
to have a general anesthetic because I have no feeling in my legs. After I had
it done I had to have my legs in plaster.
Back in the eighties I went to college which is in Bracknell.
I did some cookery lessons which I enjoyed. The course lasted for 2/3
years.
